About the Experience
This Wood Carving Experience is an invitation to experience wood as a living material: to look closely, follow its grain, work with its texture and allow the form to emerge through the process.
Guided by Yasmin Gur, participants will explore fundamental hand-carving techniques and her intuitive, sculptural approach to working with reclaimed and weathered wood. The focus is not on perfection or prior skill, but on attention, experimentation and the pleasure of making something with your own hands.
No previous carving experience is required.
Wood Carving Experience

The evening

The Wood Carving Expirience unfolds gradually, from late-afternoon light to an illuminated courtyard after sunset.

A long communal table, wood, tools, evening lamps and a small group create the setting for a focused yet informal creative gathering. Coffee and homemade soup will be served during the session.

What you will experience

  • A six-hour guided introduction to hand wood carving
  • Yasmin Gur’s personal approach to material, texture and sculptural form
  • Time to develop your own small wooden object
  • A shared outdoor working session in the SYNCLERY courtyard
  • Coffee or tea, soup and conversation around a communal table
  • An intimate group limited to eight participants

About Yasmin Gur

Yasmin Gur is an Israeli artist and sculptor based in Brooklyn, New York, whose recent work centres on reclaimed wood. She transforms discarded and weathered materials into biomorphic and geometric abstract sculptures that carry traces of their previous lives.

Her practice brings together sculpture, material reuse and site-responsive thinking. Alongside exhibitions and public-art projects in the United States and Israel, she has led workshops that introduce participants to transforming distressed and reusable wood into sculptural forms.
