What Dreams May Become?

One of the common myths nowadays is the myth of a DREAM. Almost all of us share a persistent idea that the feeling of happiness and self-realization, personal success and even our incomes depends on whether we pursue our dream or not, whether we believe in our childhood dreams and make them come true.

Find your dream and follow it – a universal formula for happiness today.

/Own/ business or /interesting/ job, /successful/ relationships, /extraordinary/ travel, /ideal/ appearance, personal ideas and intentions, on the one hand, this is truly the realization of our inner dreams. On the other hand, we are constantly bombarded with visuals of conventional dreams and their implementation on social media, Insta, TikTok, etc., and our dreams are a product of media culture to varying degrees as well.

How to recognize yourself and the voice of your dreams in this flow of contemporaneity, in what – often unexpected way – our dreams materialize in reality reflects the curator Irina Kon and the artists of the DREAMSTORMING project. An abstract painting by Wadim Sei, hand woven panels by Dekateka, digital design and sculpture by Dzima Chuzhakov and conceptual titanium rings by IA represents the dreams that the artists brought into the world and embodied in the form of their works.

Wadim Sei

An artist who reflects on nowadays social issues through abstraction. He relies on Bourdieu's sociological ideas, in particular, the theory of capital and the concept of fields. The visuals of his painting could resemble digital art, but this luminous, technically complex painting is created manually with an airbrush by using multiple layers of acrylic paints and pigments. The multi-layered technique reflects the complexity and insolubility of many hottest social issues such as inequality and wars. This is the author's way of showing that the issues that worry the artist and their causes are multifaceted and overlap. Belarusian artist, who lives and works on Cyprus.

IA

An artist, an architect with over 15 years of experience in different countries, designed over 50 buildings, received an additional education as a jeweler, has been creating titanium jewelry and pictorial surfaces on titanium for the past few years.

Working with titanium attracts the artist with the complexity of the process and the unpredictability of the result. Intention, anodizing and tarnishing of the metal - an idea, fire and electricity - like a hand, paint and surface work together like in watercolor, creating a partly unpredictable unique color gradient for each item.

The colors of titanium objects are the result of double interference – under the influence of electricity, titanium changes its crystal lattice in such a way that the rays are refracted twice in it and the human eye sees different colors, but in fact this is an optical illusion. The surface of the titanium jewelry changes its color depending on what it reflects.

For the DREAMSTORMING project, IA created a limited series of rings called DREAMS, each of which has its unique number from 1 to 50. They are intended to remind us that in order to make our dreams come true, we need hands first and foremost, and these are our own hands.

NOTE

The limited series of rings DREAM (№ 1–50) are available for purchase only on the opening day of the exhibition, then by pre-order.

Dzima Chuzakou

Dzima Chuzhakou is a Belarusian artist and sculptor, participant of international exhibition projects in Minsk, Yerevan and Sao Paulo. He has been working under the creative pseudonym DSNT87 since 2000, starting with a passion for graffiti. Drawing on the street laid the foundation for his further creative activity. Experiments with abstraction, ornamentation and light projections in the urban environment helped to develop a unique recognizable style. Since 2020, he has been implementing all his accumulated experience on canvases, volumetric panels and in sculpture.

The basis for the video art presented in the DREAMSTORMING exposition was the CUTE TRANSFORMERS project. This series was made by Dima at the peak of the popularity of the NFT format with the help of AI and represents 222 digital pets.

Each pet has its own recognizable features, but these features are small and rather hide individuality than emphasize it. This correlates with the media culture of social networks and the modern beauty industry, built on the sale of pictures, conventional dreams/images and standardized faces.

The endless change of a cute image on the screen visualizes ethereal dreams, when a picture picked up somewhere in the media starts the process of mental chewing on this image.

DEKATEKA

Nowadays we are looking at the displays of smartphones, computers, and in childhood we dreamed, looking at the naive matrices of woven, embroidered and painted carpets on the walls, waking up and falling asleep on our grandmother's beds.

The DEKATEKA project is based on the motifs of traditional folk double-thread weaving, but they are modified to fit organically into modern life. The pattern rapport is made larger, which makes it more expressive, and the color scheme is as close as possible to traditional ornaments. The minimum step of the weaving geometry is associated with the pixel of the display matrix - the minimum element that forms the image and, at the same time, the minimum element of the traditional code of authentic folk culture.

What is SYNCLERY ?

SYNCLERY is a conceptual gallery of contemporary art and design, founded in 2023 by art curator and advisor Irina Kon and art promoter and decorator Julia Korzunova.

SYNCLERY is built on the synchronization of art and design, objects and spaces, emotions and thoughts, artists and cultures. We search for essential contemporary art and design objects worldwide (and we are confident that every piece from our collection could be displayed in museums), but thanks to our mission, it can also fit into your heart and interior, highlighting your personality and bringing the aesthetics of intellectual life to any space. We organize exhibitions and events that allow you to see (and purchase) a variety of contemporary art and design from different perspectives.
